What's the best filter to have as a photographer? What's the best filter to have as a photographer?
I get asked this question a lot.
As a KASE pro partner, I get to try many different filters, but at the end of the day, all of these can be simplified to the 3 most essential filters to own in photography.
And one that I always have in my photography bag.
People often look for that one size fits all answer, but the truth is it depends.
So let me break it down.
After winning over 100 awards, I realised that the most important thing in photography is the ability to understand, leverage and capture light.
The main aim of filters is to control the light. So if you can control the most crucial part of photography, then you are already halfway there.

CPL stands for Circular Polarizer filter, that cuts or exaggerate the reflection of lights.
CPL takes away the glare on the rocks giving that deeper colour in this photo.
You could also use CPL to see through the reflection of the water or increase the reflection on the water.
For this reason, I always try to use CPL when shooting during the day.
Why? Because I can cut the glare of the sun and get a deeper color. I also use this when I shoot portraits.
There are three different ways I would use it, I explain it on my photo slides. Make sure to swipe till the end :)
If you're interested in getting KASE filters so that you can control the light better & transform your photography, then shoot me a DM, and I can share with you the pro partner exclusive offer.

Fireworks parade on my post today… because… It Fireworks parade on my post today… because…
It’s AUSTRALIA DAY! These colourful fireworks shots are obviously from the land down under 🇦🇺🦘
So what is Australia Day? For my non-Aus friends who are quite unfamiliar, Australia Day which falls on 26 January commemorates the landing of the British first fleet of convicts at Sydney Cove in 1788, the beginning of the settlement that entrenched European colonisation of the Australian continent. If you’re into history, it's a painful anniversary for hundreds of thousands of Indigenous Australians, marking the start of years of killings and dispossession, and many refer to it instead as Invasion Day.
It’s a shame, but in recent years, there has been a massive decline in number of people actually celebrating it, and most public just see it as a Public Holiday.
For me who calls Australia my home, but now based somewhere else, this day has become Thinking-of-Australia day for me. I would stop and think of all of my personal moments and fun adventures, and cannot wait to be back again.
Meanwhile, I got really excited as I dug into my drive to search for this fireworks collection and saw it again after so long. So I would love to see if anyone of you has fireworks shots that you’re proud of, or want to improve on… I genuinely would love to see, send me a DM 🙂
Have an awesome day Wicked Hunters!

The second filters that I would recommend to have/use, is ND filters.
ND filter is also known for Neutral Density filter, and the main reason why we want to use the ND filter is to limit the amount of light coming into the camera when it's too bright (like in the middle of the day) by darkening the environment.
Why? Usually to prolong your shutter speed & get the trailing effect.
We darken the environment that our camera sees by putting a tinted high quality tinted glass in front of the lens.
Now, of course this tinted glass have a different degree of darkness. But the main idea is to be able to lengthen the exposure time because it's much darker and therefore you can get an effect of a long exposure even during the brightest days. How useful isn't it.
A few landscape scenarios that is suitable to use ND filter is when we need to smoothen the water on the beach during the middle of the day, smoothen the water of waterfall during the middle of the day, and when creating streaks of clouds during the middle of the day as well.

A friend of mine had just returned from a road tri A friend of mine had just returned from a road trip north along the coast of Western Australia, and was showing me her photos when I saw one of these beautiful creatures which captivated me. Before then I had never heard of a whale shark but I suddenlv felt that this was an animal I needed to encounter first hand.
This trip wasn't about getting a photo, that would just be a nice benefit, this was about the experience of being up close, though at a safe distance to such a grand majestic animal peacefully feeding near the surface of the ocean.
It took three attempts for me to finally see the whale sharks, the first we saw whales and sharks but had no luck sighting the whale shark, the second trip we had to turn around due to inclement weather which was causing swell that made continuing the trip unsafe, but on the third attempt, things were going our way.
The reward was getting to spot not one but three whale sharks with the one captured here being about 6-8 metres long.
There is no better feeling than being able to make decisions based on what inspires you to get out of bed in the morning.
Whether that is hiking mountains or swimming with whale sharks it's important to get out there and do it.
It's moments like this one that remind me, it doesn't matter how difficult this journey continues to be the reward far outweighs the struggles and challenges.

Graduated Filters - often used during high dynamic range photography (sunrise and sunset).
Graduated or gradient filter is used when a section of the environment is too bright.
By darkening that bright section, we can bring the dynamic contrast closer and preserve more details on the shadow & highlights.
For example, in this photo, the filter is used to darken the area where the orange sun glow.
For that reason, you can still see the details of that area instead of a pure white with no details - also known as blown up.
This is caused by the wide dynamic range of the environment during that time.
Do you know what is a dynamic range? Dynamic range is the range between the darkest part of the photo (the shadow) and the brightest part of the photo (highlights).
Therefore the highest to contrast, means the higher the dynamic range.
Let me know in the comment below if you use graduated filters for shooting sunset or sunrise?

Mount Bromo, a grandiose volcano rose up from the Mount Bromo, a grandiose volcano rose up from the earth like a sentinel, its rugged peaks and craggy cliffs towering over the surrounding landscape.
As the sun rose each morning, the mountain was bathed in a radiant and golden light, casting its massive shadow over the lush and verdant valleys below. The slopes of the volcano were covered in a thick blanket of thick and verdant volcanic sands.
As the day progressed, the mountain began to come to life, its majestic and powerful eruptions sending plumes of thick and billowing smoke high into the sky. The ash and debris that rained down from the volcano created a breathtaking and otherworldly landscape, with black and ashy fields stretching as far as the eye could see.
Despite its fierce and menacing appearance, Mount Bromo was also a place of great beauty and wonder. The views from the summit were truly breathtaking, with panoramic vistas of the surrounding landscape that left visitors in awe.
In the end, it was the incredible and unmatched beauty of Mount Bromo that drew people from all over the world to come and experience it for themselves. And for those who were lucky enough to make the journey, it was a sight that they would never forget, a true natural wonder that left them in awe and wonder for years to come.
Have you been to Mount Bromo?

"How many pictures did you take before you knew yo "How many pictures did you take before you knew you were no longer the average photgrapher?"
So a little bit of background before I started taking good photos, or even winning awards getting published, I started with my phone and a GoPro, like most people do.
As I progressed in my photography journey, everything kinda shifted when I decided that it’s not good enough. It happened naturally that I want to not only be better, but to be able to capture photos that are no longer able to be and usually taken by the mobile phone.
The way I looked, the way I approached my photography changed. And one of one other big turning points was in 2008, where I won my first two awards, but I realized I was in emulation period. I was copying everyone else's photos, I didn't have original photos. So truth is, I don't know exactly how many shots taken, but it's all about the mindset, and less about the quantity. It’s a process I went through to get to a point where I can compose my own image, post-process them and create my own unique style.
If you're interested to purchase a print I'm currently running limited 50% off for first 10 buyers on my ETSY shop (6 more left to go) - This way I can help you get stunning prints for the best price possible, support a passionate artist and help me boost the Etsy store. A win, win, win offer.

As a photographer, it was my dream to capture a tr As a photographer, it was my dream to capture a truly unique and stunning image that would take people's breath away.
I had been chasing the perfect photo of Emerald Lake for as long as I could remember.
I went on a journey that would take me to the shores of this fabled lake. It was a cold Spring, just below 0 degrees Celcius, but I was determined to capture the perfect photo.
When I finally arrived at the lake, I was overwhelmed by its beauty. The water was a deep and shimmering green, and soft fog were lifting from the water.
I spent hours wandering around the lake, taking photos of the beautiful scenery. But no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't seem to get the perfect shot of Emerald Lake. The photos I took were beautiful, but they just weren't unique. I realised that one of the missing ingredients was the sky. It was flat. There were no clouds or colours.
As the sun began to rise, I was starting to lose hope. I had been chasing this perfect photo for so long, and it seemed like it was just out of reach. But just before I left, the clouds started to form. I started to see lines of golden lights from the sun.
Something incredible happened. The rays of the setting sun were starting to peek through the clouds, casting a warm glow over the lake.
Without hesitation, I grabbed my camera and raced back to the shore. I wanted to capture the three mountains behind the lodge that's when I knew I had to do a multi-shot panorama. I set up my tripod and composed the perfect shot, focusing on the sun as it slowly set behind the mountains. And as I snapped the photo, I knew I had finally captured my favourite moment from Emerald Lake.
The photo was stunning, with the sun's rays casting a golden glow over the lake and the surrounding wilderness. I was overwhelmed with emotion as I looked at the photo, knowing I had finally achieved my dream.
Moments that I live for, and I couldn't wait to share my beautiful photo with the world.
Do you have your own moment at this lake as well? Tell me in the comment below 🙂
