#worldwildlifeday part 2 with some insight tips 😉 I feep like I have to share wildlife encounters that I had in Canada. So here is to part 2! I also promised to give some insights and tips, feel free to share and save this post for future reference as the days are getting warmer! 1. Shoot on shutter priority mode
2. For slower activities I set my shutter speed at 1/1000 and for birds or fast moving wildlife 1/2000 as a benchmark. From there you can see and adjust whether you can slow it down or need to increase the speed.
3. I usually like to set iso on auto especially during everchanging condition (if there's harsh shades/shadow, if thr sun coming in and out durong cloudy days, etc
4. Set your focus to spot area focus.
5. Set your focus to AI SERVO or also called tracking/continuous and try to focus on their eyes. Remember wicked hunters that I used 400 mm zoom lens and have cropped this photos to make it look close up. Please.. Please.. Please.. Respect their space especially when it comes to bears. I believe the min recommended distance is 100 m from a bear. Don't forget to let me know if it's helpful so that I know what sort of content I should plan in the future to better serve you. I'd love to hear how has photography impact you in this time of pandemic? 🤗 Has it become your saviour and a place of getaway? Or has it made your life more difficult because can't go out shooting as much? Honestly can't believe it's March already! I felt so behind! Life been so insane lately but photography had been a great getaway. Even though I don't go out as much I love to be able to go through the old photos and reminisce the good old day 🤩 At the same time there was a point when I hit a burn out because I put so much expectation to progress in my photography. I was impatient! So I'd love to hear how you been doing in 2021 and if photography had mage a positive or not so positive impact? My big regret from trip to New Zealand 😰 Have you visioned a photo in mind, flew across continent, had a road trip, bracing through the cold, sleep deprived and you failed to capture it? 😫 This is my story... It's ok! It happens to all of us! Here it is, I had a small window to shoot the milkyway. Woke up at 3 am on a subzero temperature and drove about an hour away. I capture a handful of photos and was happy. Little did I know that I made a major error and my photos were 95% blurry! That was about 5 years ago and I still haven't had the chance to go back. 😤 You see time is precious, once it's gone, it's gone forever. So it's important that you give yourself every chance it has to capture these important moments. 😎 It's funny, when I started I used to think what's the next gear I need to buy while in fact, I would spent hundreds if not thousands on new gear yet I wouldn't spent a couple hundred bucks to invest on myself and actually learn it took me 2 years of my photography journey and 7 months doing it full time to finally realised. Hope you see that we all have to start somewhere and mistakes is the foundation of your success. Don't be afraid to make mistakes instead strive to make as many as possible as quickly as possible because that is the fastes way for you to get to where you want to be. One way to stand out in photography world is by looking pass the grander scene and look for the simpler and smaller things 🏔 An advice I would give Stanley 5 years ago. In my photography journey to share the unseen part of this world often I failed to notice the smaller thing in the grander scheme of things. The first few years of my photography journey I didn't look pass the obvious. I was an instagram landmark photographer. Go to famous landscapes and take a popular angle to recreate the shot. I didn't regret this. It's something that I would've done anyway. But what I regret was stopping there. Not looking deep enough pass the obvious. Perhaps a certain part of the mountain tha created unique texture, a tree that stands alone, the ground that have unique colors. I didn't capture the grand in the smaller thing. Now looking back, I kept wondering how much I might have missed out? 🙈 I love the texture of this lamdscape, how the burnt trees create a unique layer of texture and the mountains provide depth. How to capture exploding sunset like this with the camera you already own? 🤯 Save this post and read the tips below 👇🏼 A beautiful morning in Vermillion Lake. Capturing sunrise/sunset when you're facing the sun itself is one of the biggest challenge in photography, WHY? Because you have high contrast. So how can we capture dramatic sunset like this?
1. Make sure you shoot in RAW file so that you can get the uncompressed version of your photo to process later
2. Shoot darker than it looks (underexpose) you want to make sure you have all the details in the highlights.
3. Keep iso at 100 so that when you increase the shadow and decrease the highlights in post processing trying to make that color pop there's minimal noise or grain in your photo. So many of you guessed how long this is visible to the nake eye. 😳 and many guessed it was 30 seconds but what is the right answer? Have a quick read of the process to get this right during my Wicked Hunt 👇🏼 It was a cool night, it took me about an hour to find the right composition. I had a few issues with my gears. The external battery weren't working. I had a dummy batterry connected to external battery but it seems like it doesnt output enough power to it. 🙉🙉🙉 So I had to do ot the old way. Swaping the battery in and out every 40 minutes or so. 😉 Then the shutter was frozen, and stuck on a half click. So I couldn't access the menu and the settings. It took me a while to figure out but eventually I broke the ice off and let the shutter free. Now we're back on track! 🤞🏼 Settings and set up!
1. Set the focus to infinity since it was a manual focus lens.
2. Since I am on a 14 mm and want to stitch it to a star trail I set it to iso 3200, f2.5, 30 sec I went back and forth to the car every 40 minutes because I was on a zoom call with my mentor 😅 I managed to capture about 300 photos over 2.5 hrs. I wanted to do 4 hours but on my last battery change it had already died. So I decided warm bed instead 😅 So the meteor was caught on a 4 photos with 30 sec each, a total of 2 minutes. Why did you staryed photography 📸 in the first place? I remembered when I started photography. I didn't have any oressure, intention, it was a sweet escape. I was born competitive. I like to win, but one of the reason why I do photography was because there are no winning. Your photo can be horrible to a person amd could a live changing experience to a different person. But since I started pursuing this full time there's a lot of preasure to create something that is so wow that will make me stand out. For that reason I hit a wall, I didn't like this journey. So lately I been changing a lot of my mindset, finding balance between "work" and "hobby". Yesterday, I approach photography with a beginner mind. I just want to get out and take photo. I dont care if there's anything good coming out of it. I just want to go on a wicked hunt to find anything I found interesting. It was -30 deg c and I was out there having the time of my life like a 5 year old seeing a snow for the first time. I waited 5 hours to see this but I was reminded the amount of freedom photography had brought to my life!
